July Update!

Hello everyone! It's July, I'm back, and I've got an update! Also, I am sick. Boo. Good news is that I've had two days off from my day job (plus one more tomorrow), so my throat feels much better, though a bit gravelly

First up, I HAVE A NEW WEBSITE! slugladystudio.com! Sadly, Artslug was already bought (by someone willing to sell it for several hundred dollars. Boo.) I've mostly been messing with the look and slowly moving everything from this website onto the new one, but it feels good to have a professional sounding website.

Also, Slug At Work has a new website too! slugatworkcomic.com It's also under construction, and I'll start posting chapter 1 onto the site after some much-needed polishing. Once everything is up on the new site, the Tumblr site will be closed. But don't worry, it's gonna be a bit before that.

As for Art Slug and Sluglady's sketch-log... I haven't really decided what to do with them. I won't close the site but I might just keep them as an archive.

So, what about new updates, huh?

Well, you might have noticed that I posted my first review in ages a week ago! And more updates are coming. I have one big illustrating job to do first! So, Slug at work is still on hiatus. But once that's done, Slug at work will be back, along lets plays, reviews, the whole shebang!

Also, I have been holding back on Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr regarding this last week of Steven Universe episodes. Starting Monday though? I'm going full-on spoilers including short videos up on Youtube     still sick. plus new episode came out so gotta rework some stuff

This is the Sluglady, Signing off!

Chapter 2: How (Not) To Train Your Betta cover

And now Chapter 2 begins!

So until the first page is out, let's talk about the cover. So you can tell from the preview I posted yesterday, the biggest change was the figure in the middle, from black to white. Honestly? It was just too dark. Which is one of the reasons I needed photoshop working. This worked out even better as a place to put the logo.

The whole page was done with Acrylic Inks, on Bristol board, which scanned in a lot better then I thought it would. The green was a last minute idea and added last. I did experiment with a few ideas, like having the fins more transparent, and show the green underneath, but this version makes the fish pop out more, which is important since they are technically the stars.

Now, about the fish.

The two large ones are Blueberry (dark blue) and Dusty Rose (the one with freckles). If you have read chapter 1 you already know about them. The next 3 however, I got some time in the fall. They are female bettas, which means they are a LOT smaller than their male counterparts. Sitting on my head is Nightshade, the smallest, the red one is Rouge, and the blue one under Dusty is Indiana.

AND HOLY CRAP, WERE THEY HARD TO PAINT.

Dusty and Blueberry I had for a while and drew many sketches of over that time. But my three girls? They're still young so they like to, oh, CHANGE COLOR every so often based on mood. So my reference wasn't exactly... reliable. I thought I was having eye problems till I figured out what was going on. Heck, it wasn't until I got a new aquarium light that I realized that Rouge actually had a few orange spots (sadly not shown here). But also, because of where they are located in my room, I'm not as physically close to them as I am Dusty, who sits beside my bed.

So when I get close, their instinct is not to go about their business, but to stare at me, waiting for food. It's very hard to get a good look at the sides of fish when they want to have a staring contest with you. Indiana and Nightshade were especially hard because they are similar in color to each other, and Blueberry, so I had to look hard for some details so the reader can tell them apart. There are a few other ways, but that will have to wait for the comic.

That's all for now, see you soon!

Slug At Work Bonus Comic #2: Culture Confusion

Ever get those meoments when it feels like your characters have a mind of it's own?

But yeah, I'm pretty embarrassed about this but I've been drawing Media's clothing wrong. I know she's a spirit of chaos but I'm still going to go back to fix any images where I drew the clothes wrong.

Slug at Work Page 23: Spiral part 4

Trigger warning for mental illness, depression, and anxiety
AND WE'RE BACK! For a moment anyway. Remember the rest of the pages will be posted this week, and then there will be an official one month break.

Also, if you're looking for the webtoon page, I deleted it. Don't worry, It's gonna be back. But I have some edits to still do and change up the summary to make it more clear how much this comic is going to go into mental illness. Basically, I'm restarting the webtoon page with a clean slate.

Slug At Work page 20 wip

Hey guys, just wanted to show you all that i am back in the saddle and drawing up the final pages.

Also. I am just really freaking proud of this image and wanted to show it off before cleaning it up and coloring. I'm currently without my main source for taking photo reference. I couldn't find my usual posing mirror. And i am right handed, which from a mirror's perspective, that's the hand closest to the front.

So I had to hold that pose and stare at a meticulously balanced HAND MIRROR, dipping my hand in and out from under my glasses several times as I tried to draw and concentrate, all while looking between the gaps of my fingers.

So yeah, I'm pretty proud of this one :)

Slug At Work is Moving to Webtoon! And other serious stuff

Slug At Work is Moving to Webtoon!
That’s right! No more Tumblr site! Slug At Work will be moving to the comic site WebToon!
This is something I have been wanting to do for a while. Move to a more official comic site. The tumblr site was always meant to test the waters since this is my first official webcomic. And though I was planning to make the official move after Chapter 1 had finished, some things have come up that that made me realize that I need to do this now, or never. However, Webtoon uses a very different sizing format. It’s not as easy as just shrinking the image down and uploading. So along with editing the sizes (and framing) of each page, I’m going to edit some of the art and clean up some things I messed up on. This means that while I’m doing this, there will be no new pages for slug at work until everything has been uploaded. Which *cross your fingers*, will only take a few days too a week.
Now the bad news....
So over the last few months, my posts have been, well, “turbulent” to say the least. Skipping weeks to post 2 pagers, going on one week to one month hiatus’. Promising a patreon page with, well, no patreon page in site.
Honestly, It all comes down to one thing--- Losing my job.
Now I know that people might be saying, “well, why don’t you just start your own business and sell your art and prints and stuff? Why not monetize on youtube and finally start the patreon page you keep wanting to do?”
Thing is...this isn’t just about money issues. From my store going through bankruptcy, to saying goodbye to good coworkers, to looking for a new job, to online job searches trying to get me to apply for things I don’t have any interest or education for (like nurse and private investigator, WTF), not to mention some very very serious situations that I have decided to keep private.
Because of everything I am I’m trying to deal with, my depression and anxiety has become a full loop-de-loop non-stop rollercoaster ride from hell. And the techniques I usually use to combat them have either not been working, or taking much longer to work then usual. Which, you can imagine, has been murder on my motivation.
I know I said in my last update video that things were appearing to get better. But... I was wrong. I was so so very wrong.
HOWEVER! I MAY NOW HAVE A JOB. And if that is true, I may have to rework my schedule for when I post anything anyway.
So here’s the plan
1. I’m going to move all the Slug at Work pages to WebToon where the comic will be posted EXCLUSIVELY on there. As soon as that’s done, Slug at Work will start posting again. And hopefully with a patreon to go with it.
2. The speed draws and lets plays will continue. If anything, I might be doing MORE speed draws cause I really want to focus on getting more illustrations done.
3. Reviews. Oh gosh, I miss doing reviews. I... really hope I can get at least one out soon. cross your fingers on that one.
3. I will be posting more art on my main site Art Slug. I may not have had much motivation to draw the S.A.W. but I have been sketching like crazy! So you’ll see those soon!
4. Once everything is figured out with my new job, I will be posting a new schedule for EVERYTHING.
So I’ll see you guys soon, with new art, new, well, everything.

News for Next Slug At Work

Hey guys! Don’t worry, I’m NOT going on hiatus. However, the next comic is going to be a one of those two pagers that I would rather show all at once then split up between weeks. This means that Slug At Work won’t be updating this monday. Not sure exactly what day, but next Monday at the LATEST See you all soon! The SlugLady (not gonna lie, 2 page drama bomb incomming)
