Hello everyone! It's July, I'm back, and I've got an update! Also, I am sick. Boo. Good news is that I've had two days off from my day job (plus one more tomorrow), so my throat feels much better, though a bit gravelly
First up, I HAVE A NEW WEBSITE! slugladystudio.com! Sadly, Artslug was already bought (by someone willing to sell it for several hundred dollars. Boo.) I've mostly been messing with the look and slowly moving everything from this website onto the new one, but it feels good to have a professional sounding website.
Also, Slug At Work has a new website too! slugatworkcomic.com It's also under construction, and I'll start posting chapter 1 onto the site after some much-needed polishing. Once everything is up on the new site, the Tumblr site will be closed. But don't worry, it's gonna be a bit before that.
As for Art Slug and Sluglady's sketch-log... I haven't really decided what to do with them. I won't close the site but I might just keep them as an archive.
So, what about new updates, huh?
Well, you might have noticed that I posted my first review in ages a week ago! And more updates are coming. I have one big illustrating job to do first! So, Slug at work is still on hiatus. But once that's done, Slug at work will be back, along lets plays, reviews, the whole shebang!
Also, I have been holding back on Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr regarding this last week of Steven Universe episodes. Starting Monday though? I'm going full-on spoilers including short videos up on Youtube still sick. plus new episode came out so gotta rework some stuff
Hey all! First up, thank you to everyone that sent me support after that last post.
As for me, I`m kinda back. Slug At Work and all my other projects are still on hiatus (only on the internet, I`m still working on things IRL). But I`m breaking the "radio silence" I mentioned. Mainly because tomorrow is a very important day, and I'm one in a few voices that need to speak tomorrow. More on that at the end of the post.
I honestly don't want to talk about what happened and why I have chosen to go on hiatus for the next month. But I'll still be on twitter and facebook, where is the best place to go for any updates.
However, while I'm taking care of myself, I am still working on things. I will say that one thing I am upset about is that May... didn't really go as planned. I promised big things for may and didn't really have anything to show for it. So, I'm hoping July will be different.
At the moment, I make no money off of my art, and if I want to put out things on a regular basis, I need to start. One reason for the hiatus is that I need money. And when I focus on my day job, my art suffers because of it.
My goal for July is to finally have a business up and running. That means a new, professional website for slug at work, a book cover I'm currently doing for a family member, a patreon, opening commisions and--- because I've been asked for it--- an actual STORE where you can buy prints of my work. And, with any luck, Slug At Work Chapter 1.
These are my goals. Cross your fingers, cause I'm gonna need it.
Now, about WHY I'm going to be very vocal on social media tomorrow.
IT'S THE PRIDE PARADE IN EDMONTON!
And, I'm not sure I've mentioned this, but I am Asexual. Or rather, Grey Ace, is the proper term for me. It means that I do not have the sexual drive or even the same amount of interest in sex as other people. Like, at all. People that are purely asexual don't want anything to do with sex. And we aren't really known that well in the LGBTQ+ community. In fact, some people in the LGBTQ+ community don't even think we're real (ironic, huh?).
And as far as I can tell, there is one (maybe) official Asexual facebook group for Edmonton, but it's not very active, and there is definitely not a float in the parade. Oh, we are out there, THAT I know for sure. Because SOMEONE has been buying up all the asexual flags around town and it's not me. (That said, I'm probably just really bad at looking. Socially awkward, remember)
So tomorrow, I'm going to do the scariest thing I have ever done. I'm going to turn myself into a giant asexual signal flare. That's right. ME. The socially awkward, socially inept basement artist, is going to try to attract other asexuals out of the crowds of people at the pride tomorrow.
How I am I going to do this? Well, along with wearing the colors of the asexual flag (black, grey, white, and purple), I'm also going to be carrying a BOUQUET OF ACE OF SPADE BALLOONS, during the parade. I'm not gonna be walking in the parade, but I can at least do this much.
I'll also be posting Asexual related videos on my twitter tomorrow (sorry facebook).
So, yeah, if you're at the Edmonton pride parade tomorrow, and you see me come to say hi! Especially if you're Asexual! Let's see how many of us can find each other tomorrow!
Oh lord, I can't believe I'm doing this. My therapist is gonna do cartwheels when she finds out.
Alright! We're back! Sorta. My computer is currently in the shop for a week being repaired. But I'm not going to let a little thing like a broken computer stop me!
I have another one that I'm borrowing and the my scanner works with it! So, we're gonna be a sketchbook week!
Bad news: my finished videos are on the MY computer. (which of course i didn't back up, guh.) and this one is a wee limited in what it can or cannot do (so anything requiring photoshop or premier is probably a no. I'll see what I can do.)
See you tomorrow!
Tegan Dumpleton aka the Sluglady
You'd think I'd be able to notice the signs after all these years. But nope!
So, yes, I haven't posted anything I planned, mainly due to crippling depression! Or rather, not realizing i was showing signs of major depression until it became overwhelmingly unbearable.
In fact, this has been the most unproductive month I have had in a while. Literally could not draw. I wondered if it was anxiety from the art walk coming up. Or maybe due to my lack of proper sleep. Depression caused by stress. Maybe I was being lazy.
None of the above! Turns out the new sleeping pills i started at the beginning of the May, were actually causing my depression to kick up, even keeping my usual anti depressents from working. I've been off them for a couple days, and my mood has gone up a lot.
I was honestly going to save this joke for my comic, but I'm usually prescribed new sleeping pills and new amounts to take, like, every two months. I've taken so many over the years i don't even remember half their names anymore. It's the only medication I haven't been able to find the right balance for.
Guess it's back to the drawing board for me (in more ways then one.)
I hate to do this 2 weeks in a row, but needless to say, I have been very busy this week and to that extent, very VERY exhausted. I'm getting use to the new job and I still need to get some paintings done for a special project. And honestly? I'm getting back into using pains and it's a lot less stressful to do off camera
So right now, especially with my new job and everything slowly being paused, I'm going to come up with a new schedule so it works better with my new day job
That’s right! No more Tumblr site! Slug At Work will be moving to the comic site WebToon!
This is something I have been wanting to do for a while. Move to a more official comic site. The tumblr site was always meant to test the waters since this is my first official webcomic. And though I was planning to make the official move after Chapter 1 had finished, some things have come up that that made me realize that I need to do this now, or never. However, Webtoon uses a very different sizing format. It’s not as easy as just shrinking the image down and uploading. So along with editing the sizes (and framing) of each page, I’m going to edit some of the art and clean up some things I messed up on. This means that while I’m doing this, there will be no new pages for slug at work until everything has been uploaded. Which *cross your fingers*, will only take a few days too a week.
Now the bad news....
So over the last few months, my posts have been, well, “turbulent” to say the least. Skipping weeks to post 2 pagers, going on one week to one month hiatus’. Promising a patreon page with, well, no patreon page in site.
Honestly, It all comes down to one thing--- Losing my job.
Now I know that people might be saying, “well, why don’t you just start your own business and sell your art and prints and stuff? Why not monetize on youtube and finally start the patreon page you keep wanting to do?”
Thing is...this isn’t just about money issues. From my store going through bankruptcy, to saying goodbye to good coworkers, to looking for a new job, to online job searches trying to get me to apply for things I don’t have any interest or education for (like nurse and private investigator, WTF), not to mention some very very serious situations that I have decided to keep private.
Because of everything I am I’m trying to deal with, my depression and anxiety has become a full loop-de-loop non-stop rollercoaster ride from hell. And the techniques I usually use to combat them have either not been working, or taking much longer to work then usual. Which, you can imagine, has been murder on my motivation.
I know I said in my last update video that things were appearing to get better. But... I was wrong. I was so so very wrong.
HOWEVER! I MAY NOW HAVE A JOB. And if that is true, I may have to rework my schedule for when I post anything anyway.
So here’s the plan
1. I’m going to move all the Slug at Work pages to WebToon where the comic will be posted EXCLUSIVELY on there. As soon as that’s done, Slug at Work will start posting again. And hopefully with a patreon to go with it.
2. The speed draws and lets plays will continue. If anything, I might be doing MORE speed draws cause I really want to focus on getting more illustrations done.
3. Reviews. Oh gosh, I miss doing reviews. I... really hope I can get at least one out soon. cross your fingers on that one.
3. I will be posting more art on my main site Art Slug. I may not have had much motivation to draw the S.A.W. but I have been sketching like crazy! So you’ll see those soon!
4. Once everything is figured out with my new job, I will be posting a new schedule for EVERYTHING.
So I’ll see you guys soon, with new art, new, well, everything.
Hey guys! Don’t worry, I’m NOT going on hiatus. However, the next comic is going to be a one of those two pagers that I would rather show all at once then split up between weeks. This means that Slug At Work won’t be updating this monday. Not sure exactly what day, but next Monday at the LATEST
See you all soon!
The SlugLady
(not gonna lie, 2 page drama bomb incomming)
Hello everyone and Happy Thanksgiving to all you Canadians out there! I have an update! For the month of October, there will be a set scheduled! And something special!
So Mondays shall continue to be when Slug At Work updates! The next page will be up tomorrow, it won't be delayed because of thanksgiving.
New art that isn't part of Slug At Work will get posted on the Friday and weekends. This will include finished pieces and sketches. As it turns out October 21st, a Friday, is Wonder Woman day! And though I have a much much bigger Wonder Woman anniversary illustration in the works, I'll be sure to have something up there on Friday for my favorite gal!
Tuesdays, and Thursdays will continue with my Letsplay of Shardlight for the next couple weeks and THEN on October 25th and 27th, I will instead be playing a spoopy game called Year Walk for Halloween.
And then this Wednesday, I will be posting my FIRST VIDEO REVIEW! What am I reviewing? You'll have to wait and see.
And speaking of Halloween--I am pleased to announce that starting on the 19th, I will be doing a Halloween Countdown!
13 v-logs-- 13 Halloween or horror movies-- that I have NEVER SEEN BEFORE! And as varied as possible. One slasher, one haunted house, one Vincent Price, (cause Vincent Price is awesome) etc.
This was the project I had planned right before my hiatus all those years ago! So... yay for personal accomplishments!
So what about November and December? Shardlight and Slug At Work will be continuing as usual, with Shardlight going until the middle of November. However, I am taking place in NANOWRIMO this year! That and I work a retail job. Which means I'm going to be busy not only writing up a storm, but helping customers find Christmas gifts. (And I'm making gifts this year, so there's that too) Which means updates for reviews and art will be a bit more random. But I'll be sure to put together a scheduled by November to give you guys a heads up!
Until then, follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and all that jazz!
This is the SlugLady aka Tegan Dumpleton, signing off!
So Mondays will be Comic Updates. Check the site out here: http://slug-at-work-comic.tumblr.com/
Tuesdays and Thursdays will be Lets Plays
And Reviews will be whenever
Art posts will be fairly frequent, but I'll start that tomorrow!
You've probably noticed how quiet it is around here. Just thought I give a heads up! And no it's not that my scanner isn't working... which it totally isn't. Again.
NO! It's that this month will be me mainly focusing on getting ready for my webcomic. Hopefully I can get the web page up and running by the end of the month and start the comic in September.
So for now (and until I get my friggin scanner to work again because the comic is 90% traditional) it's going to--sadly--- still be quiet around here.
BUT remember that I do have a facebook page and a twitter that I use to talk about nerd news and the like.
Until then! Seeya!
Tegan Dumpleton aka The SlugLady
First: My scanner is working! As long as I didn't just jinx it. So this week will be the Week of Sketches! Starting tomorrow! *crosses fingers*
And After Effects seems to be back too. Whatever was in that last update, I don't care, cause it worked! Which means I can finally use those animation stills I showed a few weeks ago for my super secret project (shhhhh)
Second: Big news to share with you! Starting in July, I will be going part time at my day job! Allowing me (more) time to focus on my art, a much less secret project: My first official web comic!
No, It's not Meh. But similar concept. Kinda. You'll see. If things go well, it will be starting in August or September, so keep and eye out!
Basicly, July is going to be a big month! And I'm excited to get back to work!
Little image from this comic. Felt it was appropriate
Okay, so, as you've noticed, I haven't
been here for ooooh, about 6, going on 7 months now. Even as far as
my regular hiatus' go, this has been the longest.
I'll just come out and say it: 2014 has
kinda sucked. The first several months expecially has sucked for me,
for people I know, it's sucked medically wise, stress wise, work wise
and all kinds wises I didn't even know existed. So much so, that I
haven't been able to focus on anything I've been wanting to really.
Then I went to New York for several
days and had a freaking AMAZING time!
And then came back and had surgery.
Joy. Equivalent exchange if there ever was.
Even a tiny post was originally
planned, like, months ago. In the past month, I've FINALLY felt
likeIi've been getting control over my life again, but I'm still not
at a place where I can say I can finally get some finished work up.
Or a new review. Right now I am working on a new direction for
ArtSlug and The Sketch-log, Deviant Art and I'm still planing to
start M.E.H. But right now...it's not a good time.
Don't worry, I'm fine now. I just gotta
finish working through what I'm working through.
On the bright side, even if my main
sites on are paused, I am now updating my twitter and facebook on a
regular basis! It's not full articles, but that's where you can find
my thoughts on comics, movies, review, news, etc.
Wow this post has been a downer. Please enjoy this hilarious video that I swear cheers me up every time I watch it:
This is... honestly a journal to say hi. I've been offline from most stuff, as I've been trying to clean out my computer and have been failing miserably. Oh, and I've been writing and drawing. Nothing ready yet. After how my computer has been acting, (if you don't check out the Sketch-Log, my computer had yet another tantrum, causing me to cancel my Halloween video and setting some of my projects back), I've been less inclined to stick more stuff on it. Like Photoshop. Oh crud. Photoshop. How I miss you.
Changes and new stuff are coming. Bare with me here as I continue to fight through technical difficulties
On the bright side: DOCTOR WHO 50TH ANIVERSARY! Will there be fanart here? Fudge ya! Eventually.
Hey all. So, as you can see, life is still taking up a large amount of my time. Between cons, starting a full time job and dental surgery (fun!), I've moved around a lot of plans I've had.
For the Sketch Log, I will be posting the western themed review this week. Unfortunately, due to my plans for Halloween, I won't be able to get my Edmonton Expo report out until November. So what am I doing for Halloween? Well... You'll know soon.
And for ArtSlug, well, you may have noticed that ArtSlug hasn't had much lovin' lately. I didn't have time to do a Halloween Art Challenge for October. Sadly, work has been keeping me from doing a lot of personal work, other then a few sketches or title cards. So November will be used to help me get back into my art groove. I'm going to be reworking the site to make it a little more easier to find stuff, clean out stuff I don't like, and post some of the new stuff I've been working on. Including MEH!, which I will also be working on during November.
Aaaand I just collected a whole catalogue of reference from another kind of expo. So you may be seeing an old character of mineslithering around the ArtSlug site fairly soon...
Hey guys, apologies if I seem like I've been ignoring the site. I did forget to post this from a few months ago
The title card for my first video review, which you can check out right here!
But mostly I've been in more of a writing mood then an art mood. That, and planning out my webcomic. I really need to get a writing section up on this site...
Here's the link to a new article about the terrible Issues going on at DC, revolving the Batwoman controversy. This was very last minute, so I don't have an official title card for it yet.
As for a schedule, I decided to continue with and... open schedule. Especially since I am about to start full time hours at work. I'm crossing my fingers to have some of the projects I've been working on will be up soon.
I had several other DC articles slated for the next couple of weeks, which are now canceled. I'll be posting the title cards for the canceled cards in a few days.
When I use an image this old, it's not a good thing...
Welp. That's it. After 5 long years of trying to keep it working, my computer is finished. I had it checked out today and it's either pay a lot of money on an old piece of tech, that might not work, or get a new computer. Guess which choice I'm going with?
So, ya, until I get a new computer and transfer everything on, I'm going to be on the net sparingly. (aka, whenever I can steal a few moments on one of my relative's computers). It shouldn't be a long hiatus. Probably a week, but, I figure I'd give everyone a heads up, just in case something goes wrong... or I break another piece of tec.
Seeya,
Tegan Dumpleton aka SlugLady28
Update Mar2/13- Did I say a week? Ha ha ha. Oh me and my expectations... Sigh.
Looks like it's actually going to take longer then expected to get a new
computer and transfer things over. So, don't expect anything for a while. I have
no idea how long this was going to take. But as things progress, I will keep you
updated and will try to work out something with a temporary computer.
Update April 27--Okay! It's been two months and I've got a new computer AND now all my files are transfered over. I've also been spending the last month or so trying to figure out how to work windows 8. But now, I have my programs back, my files back, I'm in my happy place, and I finally managed to figure out how to turn off the dang touch pad. New stuff will start up sometime in May, because I have multiple medical stuff to get out of the way in the next week. Because nothing says creative inspiration like getting a root canal!
A not-so-nice-feeling V-day message and a bit of site news for SlugLady's Sketch-Log. Art Slug will be seeing some stuff soon now that I'm over a stubborn and nauseating cold. Enjoy your chocolate and romance, peoples. Seeya, Tegan Dumpleton aka SlugLady28
Hey all! Halloween Review is up at the Sketchlog, complete with several short comic strips done for the review! I review Green Wake while trying to escape the disturbing town! Also comic is MATURE! NOT FOR KIDS! I'll be posting them all slowly here. And as per tradition, I have posted the Halloween Special the day after halloween. YAAAAAY! Oh, stop looking at me like that. Don't you know that Nov. 1 is the scaaaaariest day of the month? Uh, not buying this are you? Fine. Moving on. It's NANOWRIMO! Which means I'm going to be working towards the goal of 50 000 words this month! ... What have I done? But since I'm an artist as well as a writer (And I haven't been posting any art unrelated to the sketch-log lately), I'm going to do a 30 day art challenge at the same time! Everyday, I'll be posting a new drawing, scribble or refined image or comic every day for all of November! Maybe I'll post a bit of writing too ;)First one will be up tonight!
Guess what guys? I'm sick. I'm also in alot of pain. Don't worry. Nothing serious. But I'm working a lot of ours the rest of the week and my next days off will probably involve doctors appointments. So it looks like there's going to be some delays.
So firstly, my Warm of Week will be delayed. I don't know how many I'll be getting out this week now, so it might get carried over to next week. Also, it looks like i'm going to have to delay next weeks Sketch log article till the week after. Joy...
Sorry about this guys. Now if you excuse me, I need some more ginger ale...
