Arrow Advertising Pamphlet

Side 1

Side 2

And now for something completely different.

This is an older piece from my last year of school: Make a visual report based on a job you observe. I chose Arrow Advertising, a job I actually had... almost two years ago, now. Yes, that's right. skin-and-bone Tegan had a job consisting of 90% physical activity. You can check their website here: Arrow Advertising.

The pamphlet is designed to be printed double sided, and cut along the red line at the top, so as to make the arrow shape.

After the assignment was finished, I wasn't completely happy with it, so I put it on the back burner with other assignment that I planned to fix up once school was up. I found it a few weeks ago, decided I still liked it, and fixed it up.

What?

Okay, so technically nothing else "new" per-say, except from sketches from last weeks sketch-log. In my continuation of trying to redo the site with my excellent HTML skill (Har-dee-har), and social and job related things this week, I'm doing a bit of filler. There will be multiple posts this week, as I add some things here that are only on DA, and vise versa, and set up some pages to make it easier to move about the site.

I DO however, have something special planned for next week on both sites. Till then!

MEH! Logo

So, several weeks ago, I posted the very first strip for my sort-of-not-really-autobiography comic. I posted it under the name Slug Corner, but made it clear that i really, really didn't like the name. There are only so many times I want to use the word Slug in something. However, I really really suck at making names. I think The amount of names I ended up coming up with was... over 50 and I was not happy with any of them. So, like any sane person, I started banging my head against the wall with frustration, shouting out a dozen horrible, cliche names and then collapsed on the ground, gave up and shouted "MEH!"

... That works.

Tada!!

It's simple, it works with the strips I'm planning, has nothing to do with the word slug and it's something I actually say, along with "Gah", "Geh" and "Blarg". Usually when I'm at my wits end, or frustrated, or bored, or just trying not to worry about something... It's a multi-use sound effect.

But it can also stand for things like "Misadventures in Evil Housework", "My Epic Holiday", "Mission: Epsilon Hunting" (I am also a Pokemon fan).

Or "My Enormous Headache", which is how I'm feeling right now, since my computer, scanner, and even facebook is causing me issues tonight. Luckily, I was able to get this imaged scanned before my scanner broke down. Unfortunately, the color isn't completely accurate.

But anyway, here's a quick mock up of the logo on the comic

I haven't completely decided everything yet. So the look and color might change. I'm going to edit this strip, with the new name and logo.

So when will there be a new issue? Not just yet. I want to build up several strips before I start posting.

Until then,

Oh, and if you didn't know yet, I started an actual "normal" blog on tumblr. This is where you can news going on with me, plans I have and just random things, expecially since facebook is being a pain in the butt and has blocked all links going to Blogger. Joy.

Business Card

Hello everyone! Here are my designs for my business cards!

There are two versions of the card, with one side showing the header from Art Slug or Sluglady's Sketch-log. But here's the other side, with the information and...

As you can see, I changed my original design from Sam chasing me with his broom. This one is far more simple... and actually fits the format better (not to self: long web addresses— limited format options for business cards). But, I think I like this one better. As for the text, those that remember my previous cards might notice I didn't really change anything, especially regarding my name header. This is really just because I didn't see a reason to change it.

(oh, and if you're looking at your address bar and seeing artslug.blogspot.CA instead of .COM, don't panic. Both addresses work. But I think it changes automatically to .CA when your in canada.)

Now let's cross our fingers and hope that it gets printed off before comic con!

Oh, what the heck! Here's a second sketch of Sam and me:

Business Card sketch

I'm a sick today, and busy getting ready for my trip, so not that much today. Here's a sneak peak for my new business card, which will hopefully be ready in time for the con:

In other news: SlugLady's Sketch-Log will be on hiatus until... probably the first week or two of May, after the convention is done. Full explanation is here . I'll be working on some edits to the websites this week. And tomorrow will be a continuation of Mantis and her fashion!

CHOP!

An poster for lumberjacks done in the style of soviet union propaganda posters. Another assignment for school from 2 years ago. Done in illustrator and photoshop with only dark and light colors of two colors- light blue and light redish pink. Inspired by Monty Python, Paul bunyan, and "Log Driver's Waltz" by John Weldon.

Akira Yamaoka Concert Poster

The assignment was to create a concert poster for a musician or group. I picked Akira Yamaoka, the man behind the music for the silent hill series, including lyrical and background music and some sound effects. But he has also worked on other games and has his own CD, iFUTURELIST.

Most of Akira's music isn't always just scary or sad. In fact, his music covers a whole range of emotions and feelings. Most of his stuff is best described as "unsettling".

So i picked an open ended moment that could be interpreted by the viewer and then tried to capture that same unsettling atmosphere, without relying too much on the stories told in the Silent Hill games or past advertisements for Akira Yamaoka.

The poster was created using FW ink. I used a painting roller to created the texture (not as simple to do as you'd think) and the stenciled trees. Using photoshop, i combined different washes, the texture and the figure. There are no gradients, but the figure was colored on photoshop and the tint was changed.

Haroun And the Sea of Stories- Cover and Splash page

This assignment is from my Illustration II class last year. The assignment was to take a story and create a silhouetted cover and double page spread for it.

A cover for the story Haroun and the Sea of Stories. It's a good book, for kids and adults, mixing the art of stories with comedy, action and fantasy and creating an Arabian Nights-esc tale. You can look it up here: http://www.amazon.com/Haroun-Sea-Stories-Salman-Rushdie/dp/0140157379

And a splash page for the story. This is one of my favorite scenes from the book and was so much fun to draw. The text is a direct quote from the book.
