2017 Review Illustration: Pony Power!

Y'know what I realized? That I never posted the final drawing from the 2017 review!

I honestly wasn't planning to post anything today, until I found this thing while doing some site updates

Introducing the pony versions of Wonder Woman, Wingblade from transformers, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur from Marvel, Mae from Into The Woods and Rey from Star Wars

Inktober 10: A Story of HUNTOKAR

And here's a large image to make up for the small one. I loved episode 109 and 110. I loved Huntokar and hope she comes back in future episodes. I love all the theories about her that are floating around. Sadly, I lost my nice purple pen part way through drawing this.

Still figuring how how I want to draw Cecil...

Also, I love how everyone puts Cecil in a nice suit, when in reality, he wears things like Capri pants and a cummerbund. At the same time.

Inktober 8: Joey and Rosa

And my two favorite people! Rosangela Blackwell and Joey Mallone from the Blackwell Legacy series. If you haven't figured out by now, I love this series.

Inktober 4-7- Welcome to Nightvale, The Characters

Is it cheating if I drew all these on one day? Whatever. I'm behind.

Anyway, I've become fairly addicted to listening to podcasts as I draw. Mainly, I've caught up on all the episodes to welcome to Nightvale. If you haven't listened to it yet... I can't really call you out because I didn't 2 months ago. But listen to it anyway. It's very good.

So left to right, top to bottom, Cecil, Keven, perfect Carlos, and Huntokar. This is my first time drawing them, so I'm not 100 percent on how to interpret their look. There are some FANTASTIC interpretations though.

Inktober Day 1 & 2: Joey and Lauren

Suprised? Yes, I'm going to be doing Inktober! And lately, I've been doing a lot of ballpoint pen sketches. So that's what I'm going to do this month. Quick ink sketches with a ballpoint pen/gel pens. No prep work, no pencil. And here's the first few days!

Joey Mallone and Lauren Blackwell from the Blackwell Legacy series. I finished playing Blackwell Unbound, the second in the series, which features Lauren instead of Rosa. The lets play will be up soon, but here are two little sketches first!

Sketchlog Art TimeLapse

Hey guys! Friday Timelapses are back! The new one isn't ready just yet so I'm posting one that's been on the back burner for a while! The linework from this post: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWZswddZ1yA

Yes it is long but honestly this drawing did take AGES to do. It was my first big picture I had done since getting my new, more powerful computer. I spent a lot of time testing out different techniques and linework ideas. Not to mention drawing some characters I've never tried before, like Swerve. Nice thing about have 2 computers is that the second one can show me my reference while I'm recording

Sketchlog 2.0 titlecard

Hey guys! I just realized I never posted a close up of the new Sketchlog title card. This is going to be my title card for video reviews. Like I said in the intro video, the review itself will be pretty typical, but with an art time lapse in the background. These are going to vary from large, rendered pieces, to small sketches. (Hopefully to sell as prints or buttons!)

I'm currently working on the Patreon page. Should have something up in February for that!

Wild Rose

In prepping for Nanowrimo, I'm thinking more about my old fanfiction characters. Well, old is a stretch since I've had a re-write in the works for ages. Hopefully I can get back into it soon

Happy Wonder Woman Day!

Whew made it before midnight!

I've been sick all day, so I'm really REALLY happy I got this done in time. Based on the original golden age Wonder Woman. And this is just a preliminary drawing. Not only am I going to redraw the image on better paper and dazzle it up, I purposely made it very simple to use as an experimenting image. Something to test inking and coloring techniques without too much fuss.

HAPPY WONDER WOMAN DAY!

The Ink Tests

I didn't participate in Inktober this year, but I did decide to test on some new pens on some old drawings. Including some drawings from halloween last year, some character designs and fanart for Steven Universe and Stardew Valley!

Week of Sketches Day 7: Some Of The Most Important Sketches I Have Ever Done.

Here we come to the end of the Week of Sketches. And to end it, I'm going to show you all some very very personal sketches. They're not the greatest. They probably won't make sense without context. But to me, they are some of the most important drawings I've every done. They represent something very, very important to me.

I'm going to give you all a warning right now. I'm about to get into some dark personal stuff. If you don't wish to read it, just skip down to the art.

So... back in my Return to the Internet post, I mentioned that I had been going through some very serious medical issues. The most serious ones being the discover I had depression, and a sudden spike in my anxiety disorder, among other things. And though I'm not completely ready to go into everything, I want to at least share this story with you.

During my medical time off, I literally could not draw. I don't mean that my hand was injured. I mean that I did not have the will power, nor the physical power to HOLD A PENCIL. I had to keep a journal, and just trying to write one sentence was extremely difficult and took all my concentration.

This went on for months. If I drew something, I literally don't remember what, because my memory was part of the issue as well.

Then, last year, in the summer, my family and I went to Europe. We had been planning this trip for years and everyone hoped it would help me. I brought my sketch book with me, and a bunch of pens... but I still couldn't draw. We started in Rome, then Florence and then Venice... Oh Venice. All the museums where fun but in Venice, I got to meet modern craftsmen. Making books, blowing glass, painting masks. And one little paper shop, where I bought a little handmade sketchbook.

After Venice was done, we were exhausted, Paris was our next stop. To get there, we planned to go on a train that would take us through the Swiss Alps.

On that quite, smooth driving, air conditioned train, we settled in.

I pulled out my new Sketchbook. Turned my music on random. And started to draw.

I don't know if it was my family's support, my meds, the trip to Italy, or the book, or the train, or just good timing, but after months and months, I finally jumped a hurdle that was keeping me from doing something I love. And I kept drawing. The whole trip. And after.

There's also... another reason they are so personal. I have family in England. And I was able over come some of my anxiety and showed all my relatives what I had been drawing in that book, unsure if I would ever see them again. And after my return the Canada... two of them passed away. One not long after the trip... and one this past Friday. Canada Day.

These are those first initial drawings. And with each one, is a song that inspired them. Please Enjoy.

The guy to the right is actually a character created by notllorstel from her Gravity Falls "10 years later" AU. Same with the fishy below, though I came up with that little idea.

As you can tell, there's a lot of Steven Universe and Gravity falls, as well as my own original characters. And Beast Wars. Always Beast Wars. That's because SU and GF were two shows that actually helped me through my medical leave.

Thats it for now. It'll be some time before I'll be posting again. Talking about this took a lot out of me emotionally. See you all later!

Week Of Sketches Day 6: Marx Brothers

Just a small little diddy. Before I start work on something big, I do little warm ups. The "4 icon challenge" is my favorite since I love symbols.

I am a huge Marx Bros fan, and I'm APPALLED! APPALLED I SAY, that so many people in my own generation have no idea who the Marx Bros are, let alone know of the Groucho Glasses. What is this country coming too!

All of you! Get yourself educated! And then look up Lydia the Tattoo Lady! And once you do that, go see the Muppets version! And then when you do that.... I don't know, it's youtube, watch some kittens.

Bubye!

Week of Sketches Day 5: Livestream doodles

Just a few livestream doodles from way back. They were short livestreams cause my connection kept cutting out.
More Steven Universe! Inspired by the line "Do I have to wear a star? Where am I gonna put a star?!" Answer: EVERYWHERE!

Oh, and did I mention I'm also obsessed with Gravity Falls? Cause I'm obsessed with gravity falls.

Bu bye!

Week of Sketches Day 2: Iolite the Gemsona

Welp, if you didn't know I like Steven Universe, you do now!

If you've never watched this show, let me point you over to this fan trailer here that pretty much sums it up without big spoilers. Steven Universe is one of the most intriguing, clever and beautiful shows I'm currently watching. Directed at both children and adults, it goes into everything from different kinds of family units, sexuality, gender stereotypes, different kinds of love, and so so much more. And with the majority of voice actors and actresses being People Of Color, it's also one of the most diverse shows on TV.

And because I love the show so much, I've jumped on the bandwagon and made my own "Gemsona".
(Spoilers for Steven Universe)

This is Iolite. Much like Pearls, Iolites are made to be servents, used in crafting and construction in Blue Diamonds court. Iolites are also work as walking compasess, and can even look directly at the sun to tell exact directions.

This Iolite... not so much. Though is works as a craftsman, her compass ability is never correct, but instead has a great amount of "dumb luck". This put her on a much lower class then her fellow Iolites. Due to this, and her love of Earth's art and nature, she joined Rose Quartz's rebels. After the war, Iolite was believed to have been shattered, but thanks to her dumb luck, she some how was overlooked by the enemy and survived, sleeping in her gem. When she finally woke up hundreds of years and took on a physical form, Iolite was alone. Unsure what happened to the rest of the rebels, Iolite is now stumbling across the earth, trying to understand what happened over the last hundreds of years.

Thanks to her lack of direction, she walks right past the warp pad that would have taken her to her friends.

Now for the drawing. This is not the final design for Iolite, hence why it's not colored.. Below are a few small sketches of newer design ideas, involving two long bits of hair sticking out of her head, bellbottoms and a vest. You can actually see her a more final design in the top left corner of this picture!

When researching the actual gem, I learned the vikings used Iolites as compasses, so of course I had to put that into her origin somehow. However... I can't tell south from east so, yeah.

Lets see, what else... well, Iolite is pretty ditsy, overly friendly, maybe to the point of gullible. Her main music is Electro-Swing, and her dancing is... pretty much whatever pops into her head. Which can make her pretty hard to fuse with.

And whats a Gemsona without a couple of fusions to go with it! The Cow Girl up top is Iolite and Amethyst, with a spiked lasso, the big burly one is Iolite and Garnet, with blacksmith abilities and can breat fire, and the little one balancing on a pole is Iolite and Pearl, who is based on the story of the Monkey King with an extending pole to match. Haven't come up with to much for interactions, except that Amethyst and Iolite get along really well, and well, not so much with Pearl. Pearl sees doens't like fusing with Iolite because, much like the Monkey King, their fusion is a bit of a prankster

Thats it for today! Bu-bye!

Fandom Group Photo

Yo! If you've been to my tumblr page, you probably recognize this from the sidebar. Since this turned out really small on tumblr, figured I'd post a large version here. Plus the project I've been working isn't in the showing stages yet.

Unlike "We Are Open"'s group picture, which was all original characters and fan characters of my own design, this one is 90% characters from fandoms I'm a part of. The only original characters are my avatar, Sam, and Wild Rose (the cranky girl sitting beside me.

From top to bottom we have Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls, Garnet from Steven Universe, Joey Mallone from the Blackwell Legacy, Wonder Woman, Star from Star vs the Forces of Evil, Rattrap from Beast Machines, Red and the Transistor from... well, Transistor, Chibi Chibi Moon from Sailor Moon, The Puppet from Five Nights at Freddy's, Undyne from Undertale. And Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony: Friendship is magic.

WE ARE OPEN!

So here we are. After being away for ages, I have returned. Hopefully for a long time.

As I said above, I won't go into why I've been away. Not yet. I'll be using it as examples when I talk about important issues in the future.

Now on to the important stuff! Links! Here are the links to all my new various pages and social media sites

SlugLady's Sketch-Log, Tumblr, DeviantArt, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter.

More links will appear as I polish up the sites and finalize some updates. But until then,

LETS DO THIS!

edit: Oh, and as I introduce unknown characters, I will be adding they're corresponding tags

JLA: A League of One Review

I'm back with a new title card and a new review!

So, I said that I would be on hiatus throughout christmas. Where have I been? Mostly working on things behind the scenes. Business, job and legal related stuff, basicly. Currently, there will be no preset schedule on the site. There will be updates, but no preset time as to when. The Sketch-Log will still update once a month, and when things are a little more prepared, I will reveal all to you... (Yes, I am indeed failing to sound mysterious.

Until then, Seeya,
